Springtime has always symbolized fresh starts and a renewed sense of hope

Hi guys, it's been a strange couple of weeks right? We are now in the full swing of spring. Flowers are blooming, the sun is shining... but we are all watching the new season take hold from inside the home!

It’s easy to feel detached from the beauty outside, in the same way we are little detached from each other right now. But as I mentioned in my last blog, spring is a time of hope and renewal. And although we may be physically apart from some of our loved ones, it’s important we take this time to reflect and really cherish our time with the people in our lives.

And what better way to do that than celebrate the season in style, and get excited for everything there is to come?

Celebrating Easter inside the home

Sure, Easter will be a little different this year. We can’t have an extended family and friends get-together, and we can't necessarily go out and browse the stores for Easter decor. But if we put a positive spin on it, this just gives us the opportunity to be creative with what we have.

On one hand, Easter is about cheery colors and having fun. Think bright blues or yellows and pastel pinks for your color theme. For this, you can head out to the backyard (if you have one) and make your own DIY flower bouquets. Nothing says spring like an arrangement of daisies, daffodils or tulips.

If you live in an apartment or condo with no garden, give your local florist a call and see if they are doing home deliveries. Not only will your home get an Easter boost, but so will your local business!

If you are spending Easter with children, painting eggs is a great way to keep them entertained and create your very own Easter table decorations. Hard boil your eggs and then draw on some patterns using stencils, dried spring flowers or free-handing Easter animals like rabbits or chicks. You can use them in the center of your dinner table, or make personalized eggs with everyone's initials for a grown-up take on this tradition.

On the other hand, you can have a really refined Easter by reducing your color palette down and focusing on one or two hues that really symbolize the innocence and freshness of the season.

A Passover to remember

Of course, Easter is not the only way to welcome spring. And lots of people will be celebrating Passover from early to mid-April.

Passover is traditionally a time for all the family to get together, celebrate and share food. And just because we are restricted right now, doesn't mean that can't happen! We live in the wonderful age of technology where our family and friends are only a video call away. Make a place for your laptop at the dinner table and invite everyone along to your Seder celebrations this year! No need to worry about how many people you can sit at the table!

That being said, you shouldn’t let the Passover table go forgotten.

Warm golds or shiny silvers add a splash of opulence, bringing the ‘wow factor’. Again, flowers can (hopefully) be sourced from a local business who’ll be more than grateful to receive your order. You can even add a few touches of spring to the table, too. Fresh buds and saplings will be reminiscent of the freedom and optimism of the holiday.

Don’t forget Mother’s Day on May 10th!

Truth be told, we have no idea what life will be like in May. But, if the last month or two has been anything to go by, we should start thinking about how to celebrate Mother’s Day with social distancing.

If you are not with your mom right now, then sending her a gift is always a sweet way to show you care. If you are stuck for ideas, check out my Spring Gift Guide coming up in the following post with a range of fun thoughtful gifts. It’s a great way to treat Mom to a little indulgence.

These uncertain times are not ideal, but they are teaching us what is important in our lives and showing us new ways to connect with the people who matter. Wherever you are, and however you choose to celebrate, don’t forget to call or video chat with family and friends, near or far. Let's move forward and harness the renewal and optimism of spring as we look forward to the days we are all connected again.

And what a celebration that will be!

For now, stay safe and speak soon. Remember I am always here to chat if you’re passing the time by planning future design projects in the home :)
